GSS supports its customers around the world to develop, optimize, and manufacture products for a wide range of specialty markets, including:
METHOCEL™ is an essential processing aid for the manufacture of high-quality PVC. An important characteristic of polyvinylchloride (PVC) is its ability to absorb additives, such as plasticizers, stabilizers, and pigments, quickly and in sufficient quantities. To achieve this goal, a defined level of porosity is required which is often obtained at the expense of bulk density. The balance between porosity and bulk density is a constant issue and our METHOCEL™ products create the ideal balance enabling both process and finished product quality.

In paper manufacturing, it is critical that additives, fillers, and fibers are retained on the paper machine web during the de-watering process. Their use in filler retention applications has also become increasingly important due to the demand for high-opacity, lighter-weight paper and the growing cost of pulps. Our METHOCEL™ products are used in paper coating applications to deliver a range of functional benefits.

Highly viscous solutions in water are produced by addition of WALOCEL™ CRT carboxymethylcellulose or METHOCEL™ cellulose ethers at 0.5 to 5%. When formulated with freezing point depressants such as salts, glycols, or alcohol, these mixtures can be placed into suitable packs which are more or less flexible in the frozen state. Such re-useable packs can be used as ice packs for food deliveries or as cold compresses for first aid. Gel packs can also be warmed up in a water bath or microwaved.
