New DuPont™ Danisco® VEGE cultures range meets consumer demand for alternatives to traditional dairy products
SÃO PAULO, Brasil, Feb. 28, 2019 – DuPont Nutrition & Health announce the launch of DuPont™ Danisco® VEGE Cultures for the South America (SAM) region, a new portfolio of cultures specially formulated for the plant-based fermented products market. Already successfully launched in 2018 in Nordic European countries, France, China and Asia, DuPont™ Danisco® VEGE Cultures now bring new opportunities to boost innovation on the SAM industry and gain a share in the plant-based fermented foods market.
The cultures have been developed for a wide-range of plant-based raw materials, such as soy, coconut, nuts, oat, maize, rice, fruits and vegetables, to satisfy consumer taste and texture expectations, providing flavors from fresh, clean and mild flavors to acidic profiles.
The easy to use freeze dried (LYO) format provides a shelf life of one year at 4°C without the need for freezing, and is convenient for small and large-scale production. All DuPont™ Danisco® VEGE cultures comply with multiple required certifications.
The desire for plant-based foods by consumers continues to grow, with millennials increasingly opting for non-dairy and non-gluten products based on plant ingredients and the continued adoption of flexitarian, vegetarian and vegan diets. Launches of fermented dairy alternatives have been increasing considerably around the world. Over the past 3 years, more than 3,000 new fermented beverages have been launched globally. Nearly 10% of those launched occurred in SAM, primarily in 2018. In the Dairy alternative category, beverages have seen the most growth in recent years, with a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 8.9%, according to Euromonitor.
Strong links between fermented food products and digestive health create openings for alternatives to yogurts, such as fermented drinks, spoonable desserts and snacks. DuPont™ Danisco® VEGE Cultures deliver the option to maximize on the growth trends forecast for this category.
