ST. LOUIS, MO. – July 14, 2021 – IFF today announced the launch of GUARDIAN® Chelox 30C in North America. Developed by IFF, GUARDIAN® Chelox 30C is a cost-effective, natural flavor with multifunctional properties including antioxidant,urizing and moisture retention properties for mayonnaise and mayonnaise-based dressings. It is a high-performing, naturally sourced plant-based ingredient blend that enables manufacturers to formulate without the addition of synthetic antioxidant ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA).

GUARDIAN® Chelox 30C has a unique flavor profile derived from the characteristic taste and aroma of its individual ingredients, allowing it to impart flavor by contributing to, or modifying the taste of the finished product. Falling within the definition of natural flavoring, GUARDIAN® Chelox 30C fits the optional ingredients list allowed by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for standard of identity for mayonnaise.

Lipid oxidation is a primary cause of food quality deterioration and a major challenge for manufacturers worldwide. With most mayonnaise products sold in the U.S. retail stores containing EDTA and natural flavorings1, GUARDIAN® Chelox 30C allows food producers to safely remove the chemical preservative EDTA without compromising quality, shelf life or adding additional ingredients to the ingredient list. Depending on the specifics of the product, it provides opportunities for attractive front-of-package clean label positioning statements such as “EDTA-free” and “no artificial preservatives”.
